Ingredients · for 4 servings
8 slices day-old white bread
3 eggs
250 ml milk
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
50 g butter
3 tbsp sugar for the cinnamon sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Whisk the eggs with the milk, 2 tbsp sugar, the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt smooth on a flat plate, until no egg-white strands remain visible.
- Mix the 3 tbsp sugar with the cinnamon on a second flat plate and set aside.
- Place two slices of bread at a time in the egg milk and let soak for about 30 sec. per side – they should soak up the liquid but not fall apart.
- Melt half the butter in a large pan over medium heat, until it foams but does not yet brown.
- Add the soaked slices and fry for 2–3 min. per side, until evenly golden brown and the surface feels firm; repeat with the remaining butter.
- Toss the hot slices immediately in the cinnamon sugar and serve on warmed plates.
